“You don’t have to have a drinking problem for drinking to be a problem.”
I’m a licensed psychotherapist, health coach, and nutritionist with nearly two decades of experience in the mental health and wellness spaces. My own particular drinking journey usually fit the definition of “gray area” — I was high-functioning, driven, had great relationships, a successful career, and a life that externally seemed “balanced” between “fun” and wellness. I drank to be social, to celebrate, to relax, to alleviate boredom, or blow off steam (any reason, really!). But I certainly had periods of more intense, worrisome drinking that coincided with very low points (grief, loss, transition, depression).
Each time, I would “get it together,” cut back and moderate fairly successfully for a while… until the next thing knocked me down. And I realized the only one who could change this pattern was me. It would take heavy doses of brutal honesty, self-compassion, and some new coping skills. And, of course, support.I’ve been sober since 2016, and this has been the single most important, impactful gift I’ve ever given myself. I especially love working with women in the helping and health professions, because I know first-hand the frustration, secrecy and shame of being someone in these worlds who has a problematic relationship to alcohol.
I hope it’s a relief to know you’re not alone; I know it was for me.I’d be honored to be your partner on your way back to living a life in alignment with who you really are and can be. Together we’ll work to build a life that doesn’t revolve around booze, to feed your brain, body, and spirit so you don’t feel like you have to (or want to) drink, and we’ll find your specific, effective tools and techniques to deal with what often drives us to drink in the first place (depression, anxiety, relationships, and stress, amongst others). I look forward to hearing from you!
SPECIALTY
I work with busy, high achieving women who are ready to get off the moderation rollercoaster and thrive without alcohol. My clients look pretty put together on the outside, but they internally question their drinking; how it might be holding them back from living a fuller, more authentic life, and/or its relationship to anxiety, depression, or shame.
